DUDENDANCE THEATRE
INTO THE WILD

Half human - half animal creatures go about their daily business in an abandoned but endangered woodland. The mesmerising fairytale world they inhabit is like a reflection of the town of Huntly itself within which the woods are situated. Home to author George MacDonald this small rural town and its surroundings were inspiration for this magical performance.
I was transported somewhere else........what a gift to Huntly.
Donald Boyd, HDA
After a performance in a place like this you change it forever . All the detail and thought that went into it made the place absolutely monumental.

Over 24 young people participated in a site-specific promenade performance in Battlehill Woods in Huntly Aberdeenshire . Audiences were led through the woods with binoculars to spot the local wild-life. Half human - half animal creatures moving in slow motion act out scenes of daily life in the era that the woods were planted. The year- long community project was facilitated by Dudendance to stop the council from felling the woods . The project marked the culmination of over ten years of summer schools in dance and film-making that Dudendance had run in the woods. The year long project included interviews with young and elderly documenting memories of the woods, a unique soundscape with the Huntly Writers and special lectures by Oliver Rackham OBE in our pop-up cafe.
