SPACEMAN

Inspired by NASA astronaut training programs for early space flight SPACEMAN was created as a result of a short residency at the Arches Theatre in Glasgow. It was then selected for the Made In Scotland program at Edinburgh Fringe 2009. Subsequently chosen for British Dance Edition in Birmingham.

The piece is a meditation on human frailty in the face of our drive for exploration. Taking inspiration from the GEMINI and APOLLO space missions the performance touches on notions of evolution and our dependence as well as fear of technology.

Dudendance's riveting work-in-progress SPACEMAN makes you wish they were here more often. Taken as a piece of physical theatre Paul Rous's slow and meticulously detailed morphing from one inhabited " skin " a dainty female to upright male, prowling animal to robotic machine-are thrillingly well done with incredible clarity and precision .

A triump of creativity that will get right under your skin.

Mary Brennan, The Herald

SPACEMAN is a hypnotic , compelling and phenomenally beautiful journey of discovery.
